McGuinty discovers the secret to treating all religious groups equally

From the National Post:

Religious groups stung by Premier Dalton McGuinty's ban on faith-based arbitration are considering taking Ontario's Liberal government to court.

Frank Diamond, executive vice-president of B'nai B'rith Canada, said the Jewish organization's board of directors is holding a special meeting to discuss its response today.

"To prohibit and outlaw Christian and Jewish mediation committees because there is an issue within the Muslim community itself doesn't seem to follow a very fair path," he said. "We're going to decide what strategies and policies we're going to devise vis-a-vis this issue, whether it's going to be in the legal arena, whether there's any proviso for a constitutional challenge."

Apparently the Premier was very clumsy and insensitive with his announcement, compounding the problem:

While critics agreed with Mr. McGuinty's decision on religious courts, they criticized the premier's handling of the culturally sensitive issue.

Conservative Leader John Tory said Mr. McGuinty should have spoken with both sides briefly before making his surprise announcement Sunday evening, "rather than have them hear it on the radio."

Well, now McGuinty has managed to offend the Christians, the Jews, and the Muslims.

I suppose that's a sort of equal treatment of religions. Sort of.
