Stephane Dion abstains...from Halloween?

From the National Post, this picture of trick-or-treating at Stornaway, the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition, Stephane Dion of the Liberal Party:

Why does "Jean Chretien" look disappointed? Here's the scoop on what happened when they knocked on the door:

I know these guys that went to Dion's door last night.

There were reporters outside at the time, because Dion was supposed to be doing trick or treat photo ops.

Instead, he wouldn't come out as long as they were there and sent his wife to the door to ask them to go away.

She told them "soon my husband will be a Prime Minister, just like you"

No joke -- that's what a trusted source in Ottawa tells me.

So many things come to mind:

  • Did Stephane Dion order the rest of Liberal caucus to abstain from Halloween as well?
  • Is Jack Layton going to declare the NDP the "Effective Trick-or-Treaters" of Canada?
  • Will Garth Turner suddenly announce that, while Turner was still a Conservative, he remembers seeing Stephen Harper yelling at kids at Halloween and refusing to give out treats, which is why Turner had no choice but to join the Liberals?
  • Are we going to see more examples of Stephane Dion's wife, Janine Kreiber, being in front of reporters while Stephane Dion peeks from behind curtains?
  • Was Stephane Dion scared of coming out becauuse the reporters were dressed up as government confidence bills?
  • Was Stephane Dion unable to go trick-or-treating himself because he was dressed up as a Liberal member of parliament, but couldn't get through his front door with his opposition chair firmly glued to his butt?
