En Famille is a Liberals-only website, but some of the elements, like the blog by Liberal Party president Douglas Ferguson, are open.
In his first post, Douglas Ferguson makes a shocking admission with regards to the state of the Liberal Party:
I believe that the Liberal Party of Canada is at a crossroads. We have a once in a generation opportunity before us to make the changes needed to create a Liberal Party that is open, accountable, creative, well funded, and progressive - in other words, a true party of the 21st century that will lead Canada forward into the years to come.
So if I'm reading this right, Douglas Ferguson has been running the Liberal Party into the ground. I mean, he's been Liberal Party president since April 28, 2008. And what does Ferguson have to show for nearly a year as president?
A Liberal Party that is:
We all knew about the funding, of course, but all that other stuff?
Douglas Ferguson doesn't say so, of course, but is this the legacy of Stephane Dion's leadership? Or of Paul Martin tenure as leader? Dare I suggest this is Jean Chretien's fault?
But however the Liberal Party has found itself in such dire straits, Douglas Ferguson is hoping that the Liberal Party can become a "true party".
Good luck with that. But might I suggest that if the Liberal Party is not a true party today, that it isn't worthy of forming the government of this country?
It's refreshing to see this sort of frank self-criticism from a political party. Even if it's not a true party.
