Bob Rae's website at bobrae.ca used to link to the Liberal Party's donation processing page at https://www.liberal.ca/donate_candidate_e.aspx?cand=2.
That has changed. Now it points to https://services.myngp.com/bobrae/default.aspx, a page entitled "READY to roll", and with no mention of the Liberal Party whatsoever. Even the bit of legal text doesn't mention the Liberal Party ("I acknowledge that my contribution will be directed to Bob Rae's leadership campaign.")
The domain hosting this page is myngp.com, owned by NGP Software. National Geographic and Political Software is devoted to supporting Democratic causes:
NGP Software, Inc., seeks to passionately deliver technology and support to Democrats and their allies. Founded in 1997, NGP operates according to our core principles: Take good care of our clients; operate with honesty and integrity; and charge reasonable fees for the products and services we provide.
NGP seeks to be the responsible, dedicated partners to our clients and our common goal: Victorious Democrats.
Dedicated to victorious Democrats and now helping raise money for Bob Rae.
Bob Rae is running the Campaign Office package:
NGP Campaign Office is the leading fundraising and compliance software for Democrats and their allies. It makes fundraising, donor management, data management, and campaign finance compliance reporting easy.
Two-thirds of federal Democratic incumbents use NGP Campaign Office.
KEY FEATURES OF NGP CAMPAIGN OFFICE:
- Manage donors, contributions and pledges
- Organize volunteers and canvassers
- Merge letters and send broadcast e-mails directly out of NGP Campaign Office
- Customize fields and codes unique to your needs
- Generate event, pledge, and volunteer reports
- Integrate NGP Campaign Office with QuickBooks
- Generate FEC/state reports suitable for electronic filing
- Integrate NGP Campaign Office with your Web site and components of your online campaign
I suppose that FEC feature isn't all that useful, what with Bob Rae being a Canadian politician who needs to report to Elections Canada.
But then maybe Bob Rae paid this American company to customize a reporting package that complies with Canadian requirements.
I noticed something else. Bob Rae's site is bobrae.ca, right?
But then the entire site is duplicated on another subdomain bobrae.ngphost.com. Almost all the internal links go to pages hosted on bobrae.ngphost.com, except for the header navigation, which for some reason still links to bobrae.ca.
What I haven't figured out is if these are two independent websites (which makes no sense) or if one set of URLs is redirecting to another (but I can't detect a redirect in one direction or another).
Given that Bob Rae has shifted his donations to the NGP subdomain, it would stand to reason that the original Bob Rae pages are also now on the NGP subdomain.
It might be interesting to learn just how much Bob Rae spends on American help to raise money from, and communicate with, Canadians.
