Global warming as an impending disaster seemed to be tailor-made (and quite likely was tailor-made) for the One World Government crowd. These are the Maurice Strongs of the world who have made their fortune through capitalism, and want to couple that wealth with power...real power...for themselves and their progeny. To prevent other from achieving that level of success, they want to wreck the capitalist world. A single, centralized statist oligarchy would replace nation states as we know them. Decision-making power would move to this entity, in much the same way as European countries have given up control to the European Community, but on a grander scale. This new power would be inherently interventionist, limiting individual freedom as much as possible and replacing it with identity politics. In identity politics, you are not a person with rights. Instead, you a member of one or more minority groups, and instead of rights, you have grievances.
There is a word for this. It is called transnational progressivism (and people who are attempting to implement this new world order are disparagingly called "tranzis"). In the transnational progressivist model coupled with global warming, the two primary identity groups are the industrialized West on the one side, and the developing world on the other.
Maybe the Earth itself is an identity group. Interesting thought.
The United Nations would be the shell in which this new power structure would live. As for the uber-wealthy who had constructed this entity, they would hold privileged positions, as well as hold on to their wealth. The rest of us would be compelled by our national governments to shell out money to implement whatever programs and controls deemed worthy by the new transnational government (expect the first 100 or so years to be dominated by "reparation payments" to every group that had been oppressed by anyone, ever). Our local governments would be given limited latitude to act independently, always subject to oversight by the transnational (unelected) government.
Sounds paranoid? What do you call what the global alarmists want to do? They want to compel countries to transfer billions, flowing from industrialized Western nations (primarily the United States) to developing nations, under the pretext of preparing for the effects of global warming. They want to remove national sovereign control of energy resources. Extra-national entities would use mechanisms like global carbon taxes (and likely more direct means in due course) to control what means for generating energy are allowed, and how much energy is consumed. National governments would to do the dirty work. Having ceded sovereignty, neither individuals nor nations would have means of recourse or appeal.
Duh.
Global warming gave it all to the transnational progressivist crowd. In one "problem", wealth and energy are intrinsically tied together. Hence the frustration (bordering on fury) felt by the tranzis at the unraveling of this scam.
And unraveling it is, with a dangerous new development (dangerous for the tranzis, that is). A national government has had the temerity to announce that it will take sovereign control of the "global warming" issue, and that it will come to its own conclusions and that it will make its own decisions on what actions to take:
After locking horns with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on the issue of melting glaciers, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh on Thursday said the research of the Indian panel on climate change would be more "robust and solid" than that of the U.N. body.
"We should not depend only on reports from the U.N. body. Its fault was that it didn't do original research and derives assessments from published literature," Mr. Ramesh told reporters while referring to the recent goof-up by the IPCC.
"I respect the IPCC. At the same time India is a large country... we can't depend only IPCC. So, we have launched the Indian Network on Comprehensive Climate Change Assessment (INCAA). It's got 125 research institutions from across the country who will do their own assessment," Mr. Ramesh said.
What the...?
If "global warming" is handled on a nation-by-nation basis, with each nation state using whatever constitutional means to decide on goals and policies (including, heaven forbid, democratic means), then what was the point of all this? I mean from the point of view of the tranzis, of course.
For them, global warming alarmism was the means by which to move the world into a new post-national configuration in which individual nations (including democracies) cede power to the transnational progressive oligarchy, in which a few deemed sufficiently progressive would make decisions for the rest of us. At first they would make decisions about our energy consumption. After that...well...after that nothing really matters, does it?
But if nation states reassert themselves, like India has, and wrest the issue of global warming away from transnational entities like the United Nations and its Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), then the entire raison d'etre of global warming (as a political movement cum religion) is gone.
It doesn't matter if this INCAA decides that India will cut emissions by 90% by reverting to hamster power. So what?
Saving the world from global warming was never the point!
Back to the drawing board for the tranzis.
